3-Day Certificate Course for Operators
UAS/DRONE PUBLIC SAFETY OPERATOR COURSE
JANUARY 29-31, 2018
The UAS/Drone Operator Public Safety Course provides hands-on training to law enforcement, fire rescue, EMS, and other public safety personnel who want to learn about how unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) – a/k/a “drones” – are changing the way public safety agencies operate.
*** THIS IS NOT AN FAA PART 107 REMOTE PILOT CERTIFICATION PREP COURSE. ***
DAY 1 - Students will complete 8-hours of classroom training at FIU’s MMC where they will receive a basic introduction to regulatory, safety, and operational factors surrounding public safety UAS/drone operations. Course participants will be introduced to various types of UAS and how selecting the proper UAS and payload is essential for a successful mission.
DAY 2 - Students will meet at FIU’s BBC campus where they will learn to prepare for, and conduct, actual flight operations. Each participant will be trained in how to conduct proper pre-flight, flight, and post-flight evolutions. Students will operate a UAS from the flight controller and earn handling characteristics and maneuvering.
DAY 3 - Students will meet at FIU’s BBC campus for the final day where they will work in assigned UAS Flight Teams to accomplishes specific mission objectives which will include target acquisition, monitoring, and search and rescue flight operations. Student will learn how to safeguard and process data sets obtained from the UAS.
All participants who complete the 3-day course will receive a certificate from FIU’s Academy for International Disaster Preparedness.
First responders, public safety officers, disaster response personnel, and others who wish to operate unmanned aircraft systems during emergency incidents and disaster response operations.
